The School Building Committee met on Tuesday April 12 as part of their on-going role in the proposed school building project. Several community members attended the meeting, though there was no public comment during the public comment agenda time.
Educational visioning is on-going. A consultant is working with administration and staff to best understand educational needs of a new building. Dr. Tantillo noted that there would need to be specific professional development for the teachers prior to occupying the new building so that staff would be ready to take best advantage of the new facilities in their teaching methods immediately. Andrew Stephens talked about "excited unsettlement" among the staff. So much possibility, yet so many unknowns.
The OPM selected by the SBC met with the MSBA recently. Waiting on final MSBA approval of the OPM selection and contract execution. The OPM is already working hard on Duxbury's behalf.
A range or preliminary prep work already has begun. Firms have submitted proposals to do site, soil, traffic and survey assessments. All of these bit are key to begin the design process.
The members of the building committee received copies of bound presentations from each of the model school designers. Public presentation and interviews of the designers will take place on Tuesday, April 26 and Wednesday April 27. Two designers will present each evening: there will be 45 minutes to present, and 45 minutes for questions for each designer. The public will be allowed to submit questions.
