The School Building Committee is inviting residents to participate in a workshop to view and discuss the architecture of the exterior of the proposed co-located middle and high school. This workshop will take place on July 12th from 7-8 p.m. in Room 102 of Alden Elementary School. Mount Vernon Group Architects will present drawings depicting several architectural styles for comment. At 8 p.m., the regular SBC committee meeting will commence.
Additionally, Mount Vernon Group Architects and the SBC are hosting a Green Building/Energy workshop on Tuesday July 19th from 1-5 p.m. in the Town Hall Mural Meeting Room to discuss options for the proposed co-located school. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers and the energy modeling consultant will present options and discuss cost effectiveness of various installed systems. The public is also invited to participate in this workshop.
Work continues on the siting and phasing of the project. On the high school site, a new facility is being considered to house rest rooms, team locker rooms, concessions and a storage/maintenance bay for the turf field users. The school athletic program and town recreation department will need one additional basketball court in this facility to meet current program demand. The SBC considered leaving a portion of the existing high school for these uses, but the premium for selective demolition and code upgrades of the existing building was not cost effective. The options for this facility and estimated costs are currently being evaluated. Because MSBA will not consider a new building on the high school site as an eligible reimbursable cost, the School Building Committee will seek alternative funding sources to offset the cost of this facility.
The School Building Committee meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. Additional meetings may be scheduled as required. For the months of July and August, the meetings will be held in Room 102 of Alden Elementary School.
