Current School Conditions

The 2010 Feasibility Study noted the following deficiencies and issues:

Facility deficiencies:
  • Outdated and inadequate heating, ventilation, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Inefficient windows and doors with failed seals, gaskets, and flashings
  • Aged roofs with deteriorating substrates leading to frequent leaks and patching
  • Significant deferred maintenance
  • Deteriorated concrete and masonry
  • Worn finishes
Programming Deficiencies:
  • Poor layout for current team teaching techniques at DMS
  • Inadequate space to accommodate enrollment bubbles; temporary classrooms
  • Overcrowded cafeteria
  • Inadequate space for specialties (music/art/PE)
  • Buildings cannot easily accommodate 21st Century technology infrastructure
